One of my favorite places to ski in the state is
Boyce Park Ski Area in Monroeville, PA, Allegheny County. Located not even 20 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, this is both the closest ski area to Pittsburgh, and also the most affordable within the state. While it does not have the tallest and steepest slopes, it has some nice trails that make for the ultimate winter afternoon or evening out within the Pittsburgh region. With slope fees and rentals adding up to be roughly half that of other ski areas in peak times, and with slope fees less than ten dollars midweek, this is an awesome place to quickly get away to ski, without breaking the bank, and with slopes big enough for a thrill, but small enough that they are not super intimidating. Boyce Park is a great destination for skiing, snowboarding, and tubing.

For affordable and fun skiing that is within 20 minutes of most points in Pittsburgh, Boyce Park is an excellent place to go skiing. In the summer, there is also a wave pool at the park, in addition to picnic areas, hiking trails, and nature interpretation areas.
